iPhone 18 Pro allegedly spotted in retail store, but the footage may be fake

A short video circulating online appears to show the rumored iPhone 18 Pro Max in two new colors at a retail store. However, several details in the footage raise doubts about its authenticity, suggesting the devices could simply be dummy units designed to imitate Apple’s upcoming flagship.

The 14-second clip was posted by a leaker who has previously shared accurate information about unreleased Apple products. It appears to show a dark cherry iPhone 18 Pro Max being held in someone’s hand, before a dark blue iPhone 17 Pro Max is placed alongside it for comparison.

A second, light-blue device can also be seen sitting on a display stand.

The surroundings appear to resemble a retail environment, prompting speculation that the footage could have been recorded at a store preparing for Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup.

Could retailers already have display units?

The timing is not necessarily impossible. Retailers typically need to prepare display areas, accessories, marketing materials and sales systems ahead of a major smartphone launch. If Apple’s next-generation iPhones are approaching their expected release window, some partners could potentially have received demonstration hardware.

However, allowing unreleased iPhone models to be filmed and published online would represent a significant security risk for both Apple and the retailer involved.

iPhone 18 Pro allegedly spotted in retail store, but the footage may be fake

That makes the retail-store explanation difficult to accept without stronger evidence.

Several details raise red flags

The physical setting shown in the video is perhaps the biggest reason for skepticism.

The display table appears unusually small for a conventional electronics retailer, while the product information cards seem to be loosely placed on the surface rather than properly mounted. The background also contains very few recognizable elements that could confirm the location as an actual Apple Store or authorized retailer.

There is another important possibility: dummy iPhone units are relatively easy to obtain.

These models are produced for accessory manufacturers and case makers so they can prepare products before a new iPhone reaches consumers. Although they can look remarkably convincing and may replicate the dimensions and exterior design of the real device, they contain no actual Apple hardware.

A recent observation from IFA also highlights how common such replicas can be. Accessory companies at the trade show were reportedly displaying dummy iPhones that looked and felt sufficiently realistic to be mistaken for genuine devices.

That makes the appearance of an alleged iPhone 18 Pro in a short social-media video far from conclusive.

The leaker’s recent activity adds more uncertainty

The source behind the video does have a history of publishing information that later proved accurate. That previous track record is likely one reason the footage has attracted attention.

However, the reliability of the account has reportedly become less consistent. More recently, the leaker has frequently shared or aggregated information originating from Chinese social-media platforms rather than publishing clearly sourced original leaks.

As a result, the account’s previous successes should not automatically be interpreted as confirmation that this particular video is genuine.

New iPhone colors remain a possibility

Even if the footage turns out to be fabricated, the colors shown in it are consistent with broader speculation surrounding Apple’s next-generation Pro models.

A dark cherry finish has been rumored as one of the possible new options for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, while blue variants have also appeared in leak discussions. Apple has repeatedly used new finishes as a relatively simple way to distinguish successive generations of its flagship smartphones.

Still, none of these color options have been officially confirmed by Apple.

For now, the video should therefore be treated as an unverified leak rather than evidence that genuine iPhone 18 Pro units have reached retail stores. Until Apple officially unveils the devices—or more credible evidence emerges—claims about their final design and color lineup remain speculative.
