Apple’s iPhone Duo has failed JerryRigEverything’s latest durability test, with dust infiltrating its hinge and a bending test leaving permanent damage on the inner display. The results raise questions about the foldable phone’s resistance to physical stress despite its IP68 rating.
The iPhone Duo encountered problems during several stages of the durability assessment conducted by JerryRigEverything. Despite its IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, the device allowed dust to enter the hinge through multiple openings. The accumulated particles reportedly overwhelmed the magnets designed to keep the two halves of the phone securely closed.
The bending test proved even more damaging. After pressure was applied to the device, a permanent green line appeared across the inner display. The screen subsequently stopped responding, indicating that the structural stress had caused significant damage to the foldable panel.
Scratch resistance also varied considerably between the two displays. The outer screen, protected by Ceramic Shield 2, began showing scratches at level 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. By comparison, the inner display showed marks at level 2, highlighting its greater vulnerability to surface damage.
However, the inner screen does feature a matte nano-texture coating that helps make visible marks less noticeable under certain viewing conditions. While this treatment offers a practical visual benefit, it did not prevent the display from suffering more serious damage during the durability test.

Nelson, the creator behind JerryRigEverything, noted that most foldable phones he had tested over the past seven years had survived similar durability assessments. The iPhone Duo, however, failed to achieve the same outcome.
Although JerryRigEverything’s tests subject devices to deliberate physical stress that may exceed typical everyday use, the results highlight potential weaknesses in the iPhone Duo’s hinge design and inner display durability. For consumers considering a foldable phone, these findings underscore the importance of evaluating not only display technology and specifications but also the device’s ability to withstand physical stress over time.
