Google is introducing redesigned Workspace app icons with gradient styling and cleaner visuals, signaling a broader visual refresh across its ecosystem ahead of Google I/O 2026.
Google has officially started rolling out a redesigned set of icons for its Workspace applications, giving familiar services a more modern and polished appearance. The update follows a wave of leaked images that surfaced last month, and users are now beginning to see the refreshed icons appear across devices and platforms.
The biggest visual change comes from the new gradient-based design language. Instead of using flat, solid colors, many icons now feature subtle transitions between lighter and darker shades, creating a softer and more dimensional look. The redesign closely matches the visual direction Google adopted with its updated corporate logo introduced last year.
Several apps have received more dramatic adjustments than others. Google Chat, Meet, and Calendar, for example, are moving away from the multicolor rainbow-inspired style in favor of more dominant single-color themes. This approach could make each app easier to distinguish at a glance, though some longtime users may need time to adapt to the new appearance.

Other Workspace apps such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides retain much of their original identity, with only moderate refinements to color gradients and layout. One noticeable tweak is that the Sheets and Slides icons now use a landscape orientation, reflecting how those applications are commonly viewed and used in real-world workflows.
Google Drive has also undergone a significant redesign. The icon now features smoother rounded corners and removes the small red accent previously located in the lower-right section of the logo. Meanwhile, Google Keep has been simplified into a standalone yellow light bulb icon without the rectangular background that previously framed it.
Gmail’s icon remains largely familiar, though it has been cleaned up visually with a more refined and minimal presentation. Across the board, the redesign appears focused on consistency, simplicity, and a more cohesive visual identity for Google’s growing ecosystem of productivity services.
The rollout arrives just before Google I/O 2026 officially begins, fueling expectations that Google may unveil additional interface updates and design changes for Android, Workspace, and its AI-powered products during the event.
